Performing UMRAH
- Enter into the state of Ihram: Before entering Mecca, pilgrims must enter into the state of Ihram. This involves wearing the prescribed clothing for Ihram (two white, seamless garments for men and modest clothing for women) and making the intention to perform Umrah.
- Perform Tawaf: Upon entering the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, pilgrims must perform Tawaf, which involves circling the Kaaba seven times in a counterclockwise direction. Men should do this at a brisk pace, while women can walk at a normal pace.
- Perform Sa’i: After completing Tawaf, pilgrims must perform Sa’i, which involves walking between the hills of Safa and Marwa seven times. This commemorates the search for water by Hagar, the wife of Prophet Ibrahim, for her son Ismail.
- Trim or shave the hair: After completing Sa’i, men are required to either shave their heads completely or trim their hair. Women should only trim a small portion of their hair.
- Exit the state of Ihram: At this point, the restrictions of Ihram are lifted, and pilgrims can resume normal activities.
- Optional: Perform Tawaf al-Ifadah and Sa’i: If performing Umrah during Hajj season, it is recommended to also perform Tawaf al-Ifadah and Sa’i after completing the main rituals of Hajj.
